B) REVIEW OFF LINE EDIT

UNIT 46 AUDIO-VISUAL PROMOS

EDIT SHEET

Review of footage:

Which sequences are you most pleased with and why?

Overall, I am most pleased with the sequence where the star is in a dark alleyway
and is lip syncing while leaning against a brick wall. I like this sequence the most,
because when filming this sequence, we experimented with camera angles and created
footage which was easy to mix and match with throughout the whole video (we did not
need to use a massive chunk of the same clip for one section of the song but instead we were
able to combine clips to make it look more like a music video).

What went well on the shoot?

Experimenting with locations worked well with our shoot, because we
ended up having footage in a variety of locations to choose from instead
of being stuck with footage from one location for the whole song.

Did you need to reshoot anything?

We did not need to reshoot anything, however instead we decided to gather
more footage of the surroundings without the star in to increase the variety of
shots in our video (all the footage before had the star in every shot, so we decided to have
some shots without the star in to see if this will make the video even better).

Initial edit structure:

How do you plan to structure the video?

I plan to structure the video by having 3 key scenes set in stone in a specific order,
then adding in extra footage in places where I think are most relevant.
The structure of the video will also follow the script and storyboard which will
outline the 3 specific scenes. The 3 scenes include:

- Park scene of star noticing couple
- Alleyway scene of star fighting new girl
- Diary scene of star reminiscing ex

How will you mix performance and narrative? Outline your initial ideas

Performance and narrative will be combined together by having a storyline
bring the music video to life while still ensuring it looks like a music video
(having music video conventions e.g. lip syncing).

The storyline is that the star has recently experienced a break up. She then
notices that her ex has found a new girl and as a result, she struggles to get
over him and lets her pain out on the new girl by ‘fighting’ her. Afterwards,
the star is left alone and has to deal with getting over this ex while still having this
addiction of going back to him.

The performance element will be portrayed in the music video by
having the star lip syncing in places while the storyline is being performed on stage
(e.g. when the star is about to notice the couple, she will be walking and lip syncing
beforehand and minding her own business).

Narrative will be portrayed in this by having this storyline throughout the music video
as a way of bringing the song to life in a visual approach (e.g. there will be a fight scene of the star and new girl to show that the star is letting out her emotions on this new girl).

C) APPLYING APPROPRIATE VISUAL EFFECTS AND TRANSITION

D) LINKING AUDIO TO VISUALS AND APPLYING AUDIO EFFECTS

To ensure that the soundtrack links to the lip syncing of each clip, this was synced together by playing the music in the background while recording the footage. After doing this, I then listened to the music in the raw clip and added a marker using the cut tool as to where the lip sync started. Then, I selected ‘Command L’ to separate the footage from the raw sound file and placed the footage above the sound track in the place where the marker was placed.
